 Halliburton has been awarded a letter of intent by Shell Iraq Petroleum Development B.V. for the development of the Majnoon field in Southern Iraq. Shell is lead operator and holds a 45 percent share, partner Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) holds 30 percent and the Iraqi state holds 25 percent of the participating interests in all licenses. Shell has announced that the consortium intends to increase production from the current ~45,000 barrels of oil per day to a targeted production plateau of 1.8 million barrels of oil per day.

 Chevron Announces Significant Natural Gas Find in Australia. Acme-1 discovery represents ninth discovery in 12 months offshore Western Australia. Drilled in 2,880 feet (878 m) of water to a depth of 15,469 feet (4,715 m), the well encountered approximately 896 feet (273 m) of net gas pay.

 Purchase from Devon Energy of an additional interest in the BP-operated Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oilfield development in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. The additional interest acquired from Devon will increase BP’s operating interest in the ACG development to 37.43 per cent and those of Chevron, Inpex and Itochu to 11.27 per cent, 10.96 per cent and 4.30 per cent respectively, with the remaining interests held by AzACG (a subsidiary of SOCAR, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic – 10 per cent), Statoil (8.56 per cent), Exxon (8.00 per cent), TPAO (6.75 per cent) and Hess (2.72 per cent).

 Halliburton recently performed the first-ever, shale hydraulic fracturing operation in Poland for PGNiG, the state-owned Polish oil and gas company. PGNiG contracted Halliburton to fracture the Markowola-1 exploratory well near Kozienice, Lublin province, to determine if the site contained commercial gas deposits.

 Chevron Announces Natural Gas Discovery in Frontier Exmouth Plateau Area of the Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia. Brederode-1 discovery continues recent exploration and drilling success. Situated in 4,550 feet (1,387 m) of water, the well was drilled to a depth of 9,022 feet (2,750 m) and encountered approximately 49 feet (15 m) of net gas pay.

 Angola: Total Launches CLOV Development on Block 17. Drilling will start in 2012 and first oil is expected in 2014. The CLOV development will lead to the four fields - Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea and Violeta – coming on stream. The proved and probable reserves are estimated at approximately 500 million barrels of oil. The CLOV Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, which will have a processing capacity of 160,000 barrels of oil per day and a storage capacity of approximately 1.8 million barrels.

 First gas flows from Babbage field in United Kingdom. Babbage is expected to produce more than 5 billion cubic metres of natural gas with a field life of 20 years. Babbage is operated by E.ON Ruhrgas UK E&P Limited with an equity share of 47 %. The other Joint Venture partners are Centrica Resources Limited (13 %) and Dana Petroleum E&P Limited (40 %). The total investment in the development of the Babbage field will amount to more than € 350 million (around £ 300 million).

GDF SUEZ Energy International to be transferred to International Power with €4.4 billion3 (£3.7 billion ) of net debt as at 30 June 2010. Over 66 GW gross capacity in operation; Committed projects expected to deliver an additional 22 GW of gross capacity.

 Update on Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. BP Forms Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Escrow Trust. BP announced today that it has established a trust and made a $3 billion initial deposit of the previously-announced $20 billion escrow account to pay legitimate claims arising from the Deepwater Horizon incident and the resulting oil and gas spill.

 Update on Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill. The MC252 well has been shut-in since July 15; there is currently no oil flowing into the Gulf. To date, skimming operations have recovered a total of over 826,000 barrels of oily liquid and a total of 411 controlled burns have been carried out. As of Aug. 7 approximately 145,000 claims have been submitted and more than 103,900 payments have been made, totalling $319 million. The cost of the response to date amounts to approximately $6.1 billion, including the cost of the spill response, containment, relief well drilling, static kill and cementing, grants to the Gulf states, claims paid, and federal costs.
