 BP Confirms Successful Completion of Well Kill Operations in Gulf of Mexico. BP will now proceed to complete the abandonment of the MC252 well, which includes removing portions of the casing and setting cement plugs. The cost of the response to September 17 amounts to approximately $9.5 billion, including the cost of the spill response, containment, relief well drilling, static kill and cementing, grants to the Gulf states, claims paid and federal costs. On June 16, BP announced an agreed package of measures, including the creation of a $20 billion escrow account to satisfy certain obligations arising from the oil and gas spill.

The new Jackpine Mine will combine with existing production from the Muskeg River Mine to feed the Scotford Upgrader, which processes the oil sands bitumen.

 Significant Reserves Identified at Cambay Field low permeability (“tight”) Eocene reservoirs in Gujarat, India. Oilex will, subject to Joint Venture and Indian Government approval, further evaluate the “tight” reservoir potential with drilling and production testing using modern, multi-stage fracture stimulation technology. These operations are expected to continue through the first half of 2011 as equipment and materials become available.

 Dana Gas announces a new discovery and the start of new production in Egypt. The discovery well ‘South Abu El Naga-1ST’ is the fourth 2010 gas discovery for Dana Gas in Egypt, following the three previously announced gas discoveries: El Pansieya-1, South Faraskur-1 and Ward Delta-1. New production in August from the Sharabas & Faraskur fields via its El Wastani gas plant. This brought the total Egypt production to 230 MMscfd, plus 7000 bpd of condensate and LPG on August 31st 2010.

 Mariner Energy Confirms a Fire at a Production Platform on Vermilion Block 380 in the Gulf of Mexico; All Crew Members Safely Accounted for. The cause is not known, and an investigation will be undertaken. During the last week of August 2010, production from this facility averaged approximately 9.2 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 1,400 barrels of oil and condensate. Updated information will be provided as available.

 Shell and Cosan sign joint venture (A US$12-billion joint venture). The proposed joint venture, which still requires regulatory approval, will produce and commercialise ethanol and power from sugar cane and distribute a variety of industrial and transportation fuels through a combined distribution and retail network in Brazil. It will also explore business opportunities to produce and sell ethanol and sugar globally. The inclusion of Shell’s equity interests in Iogen Energy and Codexis would enable the joint venture to deploy next generation biofuels technologies in the future.
