 Anadarko Provides Gulf of Mexico Update. The company has ceased all drilling operations in the Gulf in accordance with the U.S. Department of the Interior's announcement last week of an extended industry-wide deepwater drilling moratorium. Prior to the moratorium, the company was conducting the following operated appraisal and completion activities: Lucius (Keathley Canyon block 875); Callisto (Mississippi Canyon block 875); Heidelberg (Green Canyon block 903).

 Update on Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill - 28 May. Preparations are ongoing for deployment of the lower marine riser package (LMRP) cap containment system. Deployment of the system will involve connecting the containment cap to a riser from the Discoverer Enterprise drillship and then placing it over the LMRP. The cost of the response to date amounts to about $990 million, including the cost of the spill response, containment, relief well drilling, grants to the Gulf states, claims paid and federal costs.

 Royal Dutch Shell plc acquires new positions in US tight gas. Shell has agreed to acquire subsidiaries which own substantially all of the business of East Resources, Inc (“East Resources”) for a cash consideration of $4.7 billion. East Resources has some 60 mmscfe/d (10,000 barrels oil equivalent per day) of production, predominantly in natural gas, with substantial medium-term growth potential.

 Update on Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill - 28 May. Operations on the top kill procedure continue. Heavy drilling fluids were pumped under pressure into the BOP starting May 26 at 1300CDT, and top kill operations continue through 2400CDT on May 27. It is estimated that the full top kill procedure could extend for another 24 to 48 hours.
