 Hess to Acquire Further Interests in Valhall and Hod Fields. Hess Corporation announced it has exercised its right to pre-empt Total's sale to BP of its interests in a pair of Norwegian North Sea offshore fields, Valhall and Hod. Hess will gain additional interests of 7.85 percent in Valhall and 12.5 percent in Hod for $496 million in cash.

 Gazprom, Eni and EDF sign Memorandum of Understanding on South Stream project. The Memorandum contemplates that EDF’s entry will be accomplished before the end of 2010 through a reduction in Eni’s stake in the joint venture. EDF Group’s participation in the project will be not less than 10 per cent.

 Masdar Partners with Total and Abengoa Solar to build the world’s largest concentrated solar power plant with a capacity of approximately 100 MW and a solar field consisting of 768 parabolic trough collectors to be supplied by Abengoa Solar. One of Masdar’s flagship projects, Shams 1 will directly contribute towards Abu Dhabi’s target of achieving 7% renewable energy power generation capacity by the year 2020.

 Royal Dutch Shell plc acquires new positions in US tight gas. Shell has agreed to acquire subsidiaries which own substantially all of the business of East Resources, Inc (“East Resources”) for a cash consideration of $4.7 billion. East Resources has some 60 mmscfe/d (10,000 barrels oil equivalent per day) of production, predominantly in natural gas, with substantial medium-term growth potential.

 Petrobras, through its subsidiary Petrobras Gas S.A. (“Gaspetro‘), has agreed to acquire Eni’s 100% participation interest in Gas Brasiliano Distribuidora S.A. (“GBD‘), a company that markets and distributes natural gas in Brazil, for a total consideration of around US$ 250 million, subject to adjustments based on net debt and working capital at closing.

 BG Group to farm-in to offshore acreage in to blocks 1, 3 and 4 offshore southern Tanzania currently owned solely by Ophir Energy plc (Ophir). On completion of the farm-in agreements BG Group will acquire 60% of Ophir’s interests in each of the offshore blocks by contributing 85% towards costs which include an initial work programme.

 On working meeting between Alexey Miller and Phung Dinh Thuc. The parties discussed the progress with the previously signed agreements on bilateral cooperation. In particular, the meeting participants positively assessed joint efforts by Gazprom and Petrovietnam on geological exploration of the Vietnamese continental shelf and expressed their confidence that further cooperation between the companies in this field was highly promising.
