 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) - Backwards step for forest deal A proposal aimed at saving the world's tropical forests suffered a setback Sunday, when negotiators at the UN climate talks ditched plans for faster action on the problem because of concerns that rich countries aren't willing to finance it. Destruction of forests — burning or cutting trees to clear land for plantations or cattle ranches — is thought to account for about 20 percent of global emissions.

 BP announced that it has divested its interest in Kazakhstan's Tengiz oil field and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline, carrying oil between Kazakhstan and Russia, by selling its 46 per cent stake in LUKARCO to Russia’s LUKOIL. LUKOIL, which already owns 54 per cent of LUKARCO, will pay $1.6 billion in cash in three instalments over the next two years. A $43 million BP loan will also be repaid to BP by LUKARCO.

 Chevron and Tokyo Electric Sign Heads of Agreement for Wheatstone LNG, to deliver 4.1 million tons per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for up to 20 years from the Wheatstone Project in northwestern Australia. Under the agreement, TEPCO also intends to acquire 15 percent of Chevron's equity share in the Wheatstone field licenses and an 11.25 percent interest in the Wheatstone natural gas processing facilities.

 Gazprom and EDF sign Memorandum detailing joint participation in South Stream project. The document specifies that the details of EDF’s participation in the project will be worked out jointly with ENI, which currently owns 50 per cent of South Stream AG, the operator of the offshore section of South Stream. The Memorandum states that EDF’s entering the South Stream will foresee the conclusion of new long-term gas sales contracts.
