 Commission and Azerbaijan sign strategic gas deal. Azerbaijan commits to supplying substantial volumes of gas over the long term to the European Union, while Europe provides access to its market for them. This Joint Declaration is an important step in the realization of the Southern Gas Corridor and the diversification of Europe's energy supplies.

 Biofuels: Commission adopts Report on indirect land use change. The report acknowledges that indirect land use change can reduce greenhouse gas emissions savings associated with biofuels, but also identifies a number of uncertainties associated with the available models. The report announces that the Commission will conduct an impact assessment, thereby taking into consideration potential changes to the existing legislation.

 EBRD, EIB and IFC start appraisal of Nabucco pipeline, a required step towards a potential financing package of up to EUR 4 billion. Important step towards meeting Europe’s energy security demand. The Nabucco shareholders are: Bulgarian Energy Holding (Bulgaria), Botas (Turkey), MOL (Hungary), OMV (Austria), RWE (Germany) and Transgaz (Romania), Each shareholder holds an equal share of 16.67%.

 Russia-Belarus gas dispute: Commission strongly concerned about gas cuts in Lithuania. Lithuanian authorities confirmed that Russian gas supplies via Belarus decreased by around 50 percent on 23 June. 6.25 percent of gas consumed in the EU is delivered via Belarus and could potentially be affected by the dispute.

 Climate change: Commission invites to an informed debate on the impacts of the move to 30% EU greenhouse gas emissions cut if and when the conditions are met. The cost of reaching the 30% target is now estimated at €81 billion per year by 2020, €11 billion higher that the price tag for the 20% target two years ago. The 30% target would cost €33 billion (0.2% of GDP) more than the 20% target is estimated to cost today.
