 BP Agrees to Sell its Interests in Pan American Energy to Bridas Corporation. PAE is an Argentina-based oil and gas company owned by BP (60 per cent) and Bridas Corporation (40 per cent). Bridas Corporation will pay BP a total of $7.06 billion in cash for BP’s 60 per cent interest in PAE. The transaction is expected to be completed in 2011.

 Eni drills another successful well at the giant Perla field, offshore Venezuela. This well confirms Perla as a world-class supergiant gas discovery, one of the most significant in recent years and the largest ever in Venezuela, upgrading current estimates of gas in place to over 14 Tcf (2.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent).

 Contract awards for construction of eight FPSO hulls for offshore Brazil. the Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels that will be used in the full field development of the discoveries on blocks BM-S-11 and BM-S-9 in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil. The total value of the eight hull EPC contracts is approximately $3.5 billion, with net costs to BG Group of approximately $911 million. Each FPSO will have a production capacity of 150 000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and approximately 212 million cubic feet of gas per day.

 Certified resources upgrade of 2.7 bboe to Tupi, Iracema and Guará fields, offshore Brazil. BG Group’s new aggregate best estimate of economically recoverable gross resources* for these fields amounts to 10.8 billion boe, representing a 34% increase to the 8.1 billion boe mid-point of the Group’s previous indicative resource range.

 Shell launches phase II of the prolific Parque das Conchas (BC-10) project more than 100 kilometres (62 miles) off the coast of Brazil. This significant investment develops the fourth field in the BC-10 block and continues a successful wave of production growth in Shell’s Upstream Americas business. The full project delivers an energy resource of approximately 300 million barrels of oil equivalent, with facilities production capacity of some 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

 Gazprom joins Ipati and Aquio projects. Gazprom Group (Gazprom EP International B.V.) in the project will make up 20 per cent, Total – 60 per cent, TecPetrol – 20 per cent. According to tentative forecasts, gas production from the field will be started in 2013.

 Shell and Cosan sign joint venture (A US$12-billion joint venture). The proposed joint venture, which still requires regulatory approval, will produce and commercialise ethanol and power from sugar cane and distribute a variety of industrial and transportation fuels through a combined distribution and retail network in Brazil. It will also explore business opportunities to produce and sell ethanol and sugar globally. The inclusion of Shell’s equity interests in Iogen Energy and Codexis would enable the joint venture to deploy next generation biofuels technologies in the future.

 Foster Wheeler Awarded Contract for Uruguay's First LNG Receiving Terminal: the "GNL Del Plata" facility to be built in Montevideo, in the region of Río de la Plata, Uruguay. The project will supply natural gas for local consumption in Uruguay (enabling the expansion of this source in the energy mix) and also will supply gas to help meet demand in Argentina.

 BP Agrees to Sell Colombian Business to Ecopetrol and Talisman to a consortium of Ecopetrol, Colombia's national oil company (51 per cent), and Talisman of Canada (49 per cent). The two companies will pay BP a total of $1.9 billion in cash, subject to customary post-completion price adjustments. The sale of the Colombian business is part of BP's plan, announced on July 27, to divest up to $30 billion of assets over the next 18 months.
